When a man returns to his hometown on the beach in Australia, he is humiliated in front of his teenage son by a local group of surfers who claim ownership of the remote beach of his childhood. The film received a six-minute standing ovation at the 77th Cannes Film Festival… The story unfolds as Cage arrives at a beach that holds great meaning for him. But when he is ridiculed and forbidden from surfing there with his son, it sets off a series of events that gradually detach from reality and leave the audience questioning even the reality we are witnessing. One aspect I appreciate is the exploration of the sunk cost fallacy, the tendency to persist in an effort we have invested in even when the current costs outweigh the benefits. Having recently faced a similar decision, I understand how difficult it is to back down and accept defeat. Watching this in the GL Theater with Cage and the rest of the crew was a very enjoyable experience.😄
