However, Hitler did not drink
Nazi Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels was responsible for building public support for the Holocaust and the war that Hitler was about to start. During a meal on November 9, 1938, Hitler was seen with a glass of beer. Adolf Hitler: [to Magda Goebbels during a meal] For people like you, I will have skulls printed on cigarette packs to ban smoking. Smoking is just as bad as the animal carcass that you enjoy so much and I cannot dissuade you.. A scene with Holocaust survivor Margot Friedlander before the end credits..
The acting was quite good
Features Olympia 1. Teil – Fest der Völker (1938). This film is based on true events that are historically very relevant. In this way, the focus is placed on several important events that occurred during World War II. I must say, however, that the actor who plays Hitler unfortunately does not come close to what we have seen in the film “Der Untergang”.
There are also mistakes
The props, the costumes, the buildings, etc. All of this looks as if it takes place in the 1930s and 40s. It is clear that a lot of effort has been put into it. Basic mistakes are made, such as using the two names St. Petersburg and Leningrad, when only the latter should have been used.
Other mistakes are eg
Adolf Hitler does not show any signs of Parkinson’s disease – i.e. a trembling hand – in the scenes in the bunker. Overall, I find the film a little unimpressive. I personally think that this may be due to the too short time and low budget to depict so many impactful historical events. Therefore, I can only rate this film 6.3/10, which results in a 6 star rating on IMDb.
However, I advise anyone who is interested in what happened during World War II to watch this film
While there is no better alternative, this is still the best way to get a sense of the importance of Joseph Goebbels – and his use of propaganda – during World War II. However, I hope that in the future we will see a mini-series that gives the viewer a better idea of the use of propaganda during World War II. Because a 2-hour movie seems really too short when you want to cover a topic like Goebbels during World War II.
