A contemporary tale of fortune seeking in the West Texas oil rig world. See writer/director Taylor Sheridan’s most popular movies and TV series on IMDb, ranked by user rating. A landman, at least one working in the oil industry, would act as an intermediary between exploration companies and landowners. Generally, a landowner’s job is to negotiate and conclude agreements with landowners who own mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent. Basically, they manage the land and secure leases so that it can be drilled for oil and gas. Like the foreman of a construction site, they build roads, build shelters for workers (man camp), install excavators and supervise the drilling of wells, especially in remote locations. They are also part Fixer, Problem Solver and Facilitator. CBS News mentioned Sunday Morning: Episode #44.24 (2022). For someone so focused on his goals, the inclusion of an emotionally unstable, one-man circus completely defeats the purpose of the show. Her character seems to disrupt the central narrative by adding unnecessary clutter rather than supporting his journey. The portrayal doesn’t enhance the plot, but instead makes his determination and seriousness difficult to focus on. Similarly, the roles of both his wife and daughter seem out of place in the series. The wife seems emotionally unpredictable and the daughter seems to lack intellectual depth, which should not be considered her contribution to the plot. The portrayal of the daughter feels particularly shallow, with her character adding little value to the story beyond superficial involvement. Furthermore, it seems inconsistent with the tone of the show that these characters are constantly jumping around in provocative clothing, seemingly for no other purpose than to attract the audience. Instead of enhancing the plot or character dynamics, this approach feels like a superficial attention-grabbing ploy. It’s a strange and unnecessary addition that detracts from the overall quality of the narrative.
