Paternalism, inheritance and the intergenerational trauma seen through the cultural prism of Ireland
Scenario
An Irish sheepherding family struggles on multiple fronts: internal conflict, hostility within the family, rivalry with another farmer.
69TH CORK FILM FEST – No3 (PREMIERE + Q&A) A fast-paced revenge film that never gets boring and somehow manages to do the impossible in my opinion
Paul Mescal and Tom Burke were originally set to play the lead roles but both dropped out after the project stalled in development and were replaced by Barry Keoghan and Christopher Abbott.
They both make so much more of their respective roles than anyone else
The whole cast does a fantastic job but the standouts are Nora-Jane Murphy, Barry Keoghan and Christopher Abbot (whose accent is unreal for an American).
They’re also very timely in our world right now so they really spoke to me
The themes of abuse, violence and the inability to communicate properly are very closely interwoven here.
